Situation at Canton continues to be critical and es
telegraphic communication with Hongkong is cut newe coles
through slowly.
Japanese gunboat, which was sent to
protect Japanese cortunity and if necessary remove then, arrived there July 50th. Heavy firing coincident with
her arrival indicates according to His Majesty's Consul
General that insurgents had (4 groups undecy.)
It is probable that struggle at Canton foreshadows
a similar trial of strength for power at Peking.
